This week, the National Park Service announced their plans to close Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park for road building throughout 2021 and 2022. The Glacier Point Road Rehabilitation Project would start off in the spring of 2021 and aims to appropriate many extreme security difficulties, pave the road to increase the road surface, supply a protected and constant minimum road width, improved handle visitor parking, and restore impacted regions on the ten miles in between the Badger Pass Ski Region intersection and Glacier Point.

According to the National Park Service web page, Yosemite National Park plans to repair aging and deteriorated pavement, pullouts, and parking regions along the Glacier Point Road. The project will pulverize and repave ten miles of the Glacier Point Road in between Badger Pass and Glacier Point, repair the hairpin curves on the steep descent to Glacier Point to make certain that massive cars can drive safely devoid of drifting into the opposite lane, widen the pullout at the Clark Variety Overlook to meet minimum security requirements, grade and pave a new parking region west of the current Sentinel Dome parking region to replace off-road non-sanctioned parking and add new vault toilets, amongst other actions.

Building would take location from spring by means of fall in 2021 and 2022, with complete road closure one particular year and partial road closure the subsequent. If the climate does not cooperate, it could take longer (and most likely will).

The park will make a final determination on building phasing when civic engagement and environmental compliance processes are concluded. In the meantime, the NPS has opened comments on the project—you have till September 19th to voice your opinion.
The park is also hosting a public meeting from four:00pm to six:00pm on August 28, 2019 at the Oakhurst Neighborhood Center and a webinar on September 4th, 2019.

I personally welcome any improvement to Yosemite’s infrastructure. And for these that do not thoughts lacing up their hiking boots, you can nonetheless attain Glacier Point by means of the 4-Mile Trail, Pohono Trail, and Panorama Trail. The ideal portion? You could have Glacier Point all to your self if you do.
