My canteen cup lid

There are some talented people out there on this forum. I regrettably am not one particular of them. I have pretty tiny tools to use about the property. I did what I could do with what I had. It turned out just fine, for now.

I was staying household with a sick kiddo now so I believed why not fill up my alcohol bottles that I use when out. When carrying out this I emptied out the can. I was about to throw it away when I got to considering this may well operate for a canteen cup lid.

I reduce off the major and bottom with a can opener and then opened up the can.

I laid the cup on the metal and drew the outline with a black sharpie.

Each marked out and prepared for cutting.

All I had was kitchen scissors. If my wife only knew.

I reduce the outline fairly close and then banged it about the inside with a ball peen hammer. I then place the cup on the marks and banged up the edges gently. Not ideal but not to undesirable.

Took it for a test run on the stove. I reside about 7000′ so a lid definitely aids to make a boil take place.

I went to the hardware shop and grabbed two 1/four” x two” eye bolts and eight 1/four” washers, then came household and drilled a 1/four” hole in the lids.

Boil test quantity two. The eyebolt does get hot but I often have a bandanna with me for such scenarios.

This is what it appears like on the inside. Yes the bolt is extended but I had an notion for that as well.

The water boiled fairly speedily. This will make heating water with my alcohol stove substantially more rapidly.

I then took the bolt out and place the washers and nut on it and place it in the side pocket of my canteen bag.

The lid fits ok behind the canteen and above the cup and burner. I believe I will need to figure out a greater way, but till then this will operate.

The project took me about an hour to make two of these. Total price was $two for the fasteners. All snugged up and prepared to take on a true trip.

If you people have suggestions on exactly where to shop your lid I would be grateful for recommendations. I am afraid it will get bent a tiny. I often have my Leatherman with me so I can bend it back. Improved storage suggestions would be a plus even though.
