Our September Beer & Bouldering featuring Sterling Rope was filled with all the climbing goodness you would count on from us, like: a climbing athlete and rope engineer, film screening, swag, raffles, mastering possibilities, beer, bouldering, and (most importantly) YOU the locals.
With about 30 guests in our shop, the space was buzzing with conversation on climbing. Our unique guest, Jim Ewing, performed a clinic on the engineering and technologies behind Sterling’s climbing ropes. “I’m quite new to climbing,” mentioned Katie, 1 of the attendees, “I was actually impressed by the presentation [by Jim Ewing] and it actually got me interested in going climbing outdoors.”
Afterward, we had a raffle and screened the Adaptive quick film starring Jim himself and a preceding unique guest of ours, pro climber Maureen Beck.
The film showcased the two climbers on their epic ascent of Canada’s Lotus Flower Tower, comprehensive with hardship and triumph, ALL in spite of getting adaptive climbers… Did I mention epic adventure? Afterward, Jim answered concerns when attendees continued to love the drinks & climb in the background.
As usual, we had a lot of new faces quit by to verify out the occasion. “I was at the Factory and I overheard a person speaking about this,” Dan, a neighborhood climber, mentioned, “but I had to come when I heard there was no cost beer. I imply how could you pass up no cost beer and climbing?”
1 individual told us, “I’ve only actually gone climbing at the health club, but it feels quite closed off, like people today do not actually speak outdoors of their pal group. Coming right here actually helped me really feel a portion of the neighborhood. Speaking with new people today and them assisting and providing guidelines to newbies like me is inspiring.”
Gear Tips From Jim Ewing
Ahead of Beer & Bouldering we grabbed Jim for a rapid photoshoot and asked him to choose a prop, something from the shop that spoke to him. He quietly gestured with his eyes and a sly smile toward the grappling hook we have hanging above the register saying, “this is ideal. I really feel like this is the initial issue inexperienced people today believe of when it comes to climbing gear.”
Not only is Jim photogenic, he has a big climbing background and so naturally we wanted to choose his brain on climbing gear. Jim is a fan of Black Diamond’s Oz quickdraw a lightweight strong-gate, a ideal draw for any scenario or expedition. For ropes, Jim encouraged the Nano Dry and Ion for the reason that the two ropes are created effectively and can final a very good quantity of time. The Ion can take a tiny extra fall and is robust, when the Nano Dry will carry out a tiny greater and functions effectively in wet circumstances.
For Jim, “some of the other rope companies transform their factory all the time you are not actually confident exactly where it is coming from. Sterling Rope has generally come from the very same spot.” He also styles and tests the ropes himself, providing even extra assurance for Jim when he climbs. With the reputation that Sterling has constructed up for itself and Jim getting an engineer and elite-level climber, there is weight to his words.
