Most hunters have by no means been fortunate sufficient to witness a piebald or albino deer out in the wild—let alone fighting through the rut.
But Charlie M. of Beaufort, South Carolina, was fortunate sufficient to witness a piebald buck fighting a standard buck appropriate in his personal front yard.
A piebald (or pied) animal has a pattern of pigmented spots on a white background of hair. According to QDMA, it is a “rare genetic anomaly…that can include things like a variety of prospective deformities, from coat coloration to skeletal alignment.”
So a very good quantity of piebald (and albino) deer have skeletal difficulties, from crooked spines to shortened or crooked legs.
The piebald deer in the video, nevertheless, appears fairly healthful. Verify out the action.
As you can see, he’s putting up quite the fight.
Interestingly, he seems to have figured out that staying on dirt is an advantage because he did his hooves in.
I’m not sure who “won,” but the other buck looks a little bigger, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the pied deer lost.
Either way, it’s a very cool sight to behold, and we’re grateful Charlie grabbed his phone and started recording.
