Grady Brown Park on the Choctawhatchee Bay opens Oct. 23

The lengthy awaited new bay front park is now open to the public beginning with a grand opening/ribbon cutting on Oct. 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. Positioned at the corner of Bay Grove Road and U.S. Hwy. 331 in Freeport, Grady Brown Park gives a quantity of amenities that considerably increase the recreational possibilities in the region, like an abundance of green space to throw down a blanket, and loosen up below an oak tree. The park functions:

  • Sandy beach along the Choctawhatchee Bay
  • two boat ramps
  • three finger piers
  • Handicapped accessible kayak launch
  • Picnic tables
  • Grills
  • Boat wash down station
  • Boat trailer parking region
  • Car parking
  • Sidewalks
  • Restrooms

On July 25, 2017, the BCC authorized the $three,742,000 acquire of the home with the excess funds remaining from the half-cent sales tax that was imposed to finance building of the US Hwy 331 bridge. In October of 2017, Walton County Crews commence demolition of prior structures and web page cleanup.

On November 28, 2017, the BCC authorized the preliminary park idea program and directed employees to hold two public workshops for neighborhood input. Following these workshops, the BCC authorized the final park program and employees started the course of action of design and style and permitting.

Following the approval of the design and style and permitting, on October 9, 2018 the BCC acted to officially name the park, Grady Brown Park. For the duration of the July 10th, 2018 BCC meeting, Ms. Hannah Brown had requested the park be named for Mr. Grady Brown, her grandfather, who fished the region each day, was a function model to lots of and was a lifelong resident of Walton County.

In January of 2019, R J Gorman Marine Building, LLC was issued a notice to proceed to commence the building related with the seawall renovation, boat ramp, piers and sidewalks. In March of 2019, Gum Creek Farms, Inc. was issued a notice to proceed to commence building of the bathroom facility.

Walton County Public Operates crews completed the park by installing the sidewalks, parking regions and sod.

Grady Brown Park is situated at the northwest finish of the Clyde B. Wells causeway at the corner of Bay Grove Road and U.S. Hwy. 331. The address is 20940 US Highway 331 South, Freeport. ::MAP::
