About this video:
Although I’m operating on other projects I’ll place up this video of an experimental furnace I constructed that operates by organic draft and utilizes charcoal as a fuel. The furnace burns the fuel on a grate for maximum location of air entry. The chimney attached to the furnace is two m tall above ground level. The pit is 25 cm cubed and extends under ground level. The complete structure took about two weeks to develop.
A brick of iron oxide (from iron bacteria) mixed with charcoal powder was produced and placed in the furnace sitting on a grate about 12.five cm tall. The furnace was lit with wood and fired. Charcoal was added immediately after this point and a higher temperature was reached. The ore brick melted and developed some tiny beads of cast iron.
In contrast to the other furnace I produced in the earlier video, this 1 developed significantly less iron although consuming the exact same quantity of charcoal. I’d in fact constructed this furnace ahead of the earlier video in an try to cut down labour by getting a tall draft chimney replace the function and complexity involved with applying a blower. I’ll maintain experimenting with organic draft furnaces, the principle is sound but the strategy of introducing the ore (batches of ore on a grate alternatively of continuous addition of ore pellets) is likely inefficient or could be enhanced on.

About Primitive Technologies:
Primitive technologies is a hobby exactly where you develop issues in the wild absolutely from scratch applying no contemporary tools or supplies. These are the strict guidelines: If you want a fire, use a fire stick – An axe, choose up a stone and shape it – A hut, develop 1 from trees, mud, rocks and so forth. The challenge is seeing how far you can go without having using contemporary technologies. I do not reside in the wild, but take pleasure in creating shelter, tools, and extra, only using organic supplies.
