My nearby elkhorn chollas make an edible sap secretion, black and crusty seeking, but with a mild, nutty taste. The polite version of the name I heard for it is “cactus poo” . Cholla fruits are edible as effectively, and have a tart flavor with pretty small sugar they are covered in spines, which have to be burned or skinned off. Prickly pear fruit and pads are edible as well…in reality, about right here, all the cacti can be eaten.
Collecting cactus for meals is a good way to get poked, lol…
